Club Update: Covid-19 (Coronavirus)
Last Updated: 18th March 2020

Pontnewydd Golf Club is operating as normally as possible, but with some changes which we will outline below.

While we are open, if you have any symptoms of Covid-19, or have been in contact with anyone that has, please refrain from visiting us for the time being and follow the proper advice outlined by the Government and Public Health Wales.

Golf Course

The golf course remains open for play. We encourage all members and visitors to adhere to social distancing and hygiene requirements. These include steps such as:

  • Washing your hands before and after play with soap/hand sanitizer

  • Leaving the flag stick in – in fact is there a need to putt out if you are playing social golf?

  • Not shaking hands at any time

  • Keeping a safe distance apart from everyone (two metres)

  • Bunker rakes will be removed. We will advise you if they are out of play. Please smooth imprints with shoes or clubs as best you can

  • Please do not use the benches that are on the course

  • Please do not use ball washers

  • We advise all members to clean clubs with warm soap and water after play

These are temporary measures in place to keep all our players and staff as safe as we can.

Club house

The club house will remain open but with some restrictions.

  • Each day the club house will open at 7:30 am. and will close at approx. 4pm

  • The bar will open during the week as per the published hours.

  • If the course is closed, the bar will remain closed except on a weekend when the hours are as follows:

    • On a Saturday the bar will open at 1:00pm

    • On a Sunday the bar will open at 11:00am

It is possible, in line with Government advice, that we will need to make fast moving changes to how the clubhouse operates so we ask for your patience at this time.

In the locker rooms

  • Remove all rubbish & items that belong to you

  • Remove clothes and shoes not stored in your locker

  • Keep your lockers clean inside & out

Member & External Functions

Any member social functions and AGMs have been postponed.

All external functions are being dealt with individually.

Club Competitions & Green Fees

Club competitions are going ahead until further notice. The situation will be continuously monitored in the coming weeks, except for the drive-in’s which will be rescheduled.

If you bring a visitor to the club, please make sure they adhere to the restrictions.

A decision about knock out competitions will be made in the next few weeks.

Please note that members attending the Golf Club premises or continuing to play Golf do so at their own risk.

Finally, and perhaps most importantly, please remember to look after yourself, check in regularly with family and friends and help those who need it.

WELCOME to Pontnewydd Golf Club.....

We are debatably the Oldest Golf Club in Wales, the course was established in 1875, over 140 years ago, and our aim now, as was then, is to provide quality, affordable golf to members and visitors in a safe and friendly environment. In short...

Golf  for One & All

We are officially classed as a 9 hole course, but by combining the 11 different greens and various additional tee box areas we have, by playing the course a second time it becomes an 18 hole course.

If you are a High or Low Handicap player the course will test your golfing ability and for the busy workingman or woman with little spare time and find it difficult to play a full 18 holes, we are the ideal answer, play 9 and be back at the Club House (not stranded mid course as is the case on many other "Full" 18 hole Clubs).

We are a small friendly Club, we offer a very warm welcome to all so don't delay come and play... Give us a try, you won't regret it and even if your golf is off on that day the on course views across the valley and Bristol Channel towards Ilfracombe are amazing.

We look forward to seeing you.
